The Embassy of Uganda in Bujumbura was officially opened in August 2009.
Since then relations between Uganda and Burundi have ac
quired a new dimension
and the mission’s core responsibilities then is to ensure that these relations are upheld and
strengthened in addition to protecting and promoting Uganda’s national interests and positions in Burundi.
The mission is also responsible for delivering consular services and those doing business
with Burundi from Uganda especially in promoting trade bilateral relations of the two countries,
and facilitating goods and persons within East Africa as a follow-up of the EAC Common Market Protocol.
Further to this, the embassy is responsible for monitoring the tourist traffic from Congo to Uganda
through Burundi and vice versa. The security of persons’ movement within the two countries
is a sole responsibility of the Embassy more so when they declare their movement through registration
with the Embassy.
